Hourglass is a vegan and cruelty-free beauty brand redefining luxury cosmetics through innovative formulas, cutting-edge performance, and covetable packaging. Globally available in 32 countries and over 2,600 doors, Hourglass was founded in 2004 by beauty industry veteran Carisa Janes.
Since its first product launch in 2004, Hourglass has established itself as a vegan and cruelty-free brand that exists at the intersection of science, beauty, and luxury.
20 years and countless breakthrough formulas later, Hourglass continues its legacy with an unwavering commitment to cruelty-free luxury beauty.
SEEING EYE TO EYE WITH ANIMALSÂ
Since our first product launch in 2004, Hourglass has been proudly cruelty-free and became a fully vegan brand in 2020. We donate 1% of annual net profits from hourglasscosmetics.com to the Nonhuman Rights Project, an organization that works to secure fundamental rights for animals.
Continuing its commitment to animal welfare, Hourglass created Red 0 – the industry’s first-ever vegan replacement for carmine – a widely-used red pigment produced from crushed female insects.Â

With nearly 70,000 female insects used to create one pound of the crimson dye traditionally used in cosmetics, Red 0 is a groundbreaking product that symbolizes our commitment to animal welfare: zero animal by products, zero animals harmed.Â

Since 2017, our Unlocked collection has supported the Nonhuman Rights Project’s mission of unlocking the cages of wild animals in captivity. Comprised of our Unlocked Instant Extensions Mascara, Ambient Lighting Edit Unlocked Palettes, and Unlocked Lipstick, Hourglass proudly donates 5% of annual net profits from Unlocked products to the NhRP’s efforts.
